Introducing:      The Smith and Wesson Model 500
I get to fire the SW500.  To save bandwidth, the video's available on my YouTube
page at:

If you have to have the biggest and the baddest handgun, this must be it.

I've fired a few handguns before, even the 44 Magnum after Dirty Harry
brought his to the big screen, but I've never fired anything like this!  A
friend took me down to a local range to check out his new toy.  4-1/2
pounds out the box and a full 5 pounds fully loaded.  The pistol was loaded
with several different bullet weights, between 275 grain and 440 grain.
With the muzzle brake, the cushioned grips and the overall weight of the
frame, it wasn't quite as bad as I expected.  I have no doubt that it's fully
capable of taking any beast that walks on the planet, and possibly anything
that swims. Captain Ahab could've used one.

I fired 5 rounds and my hand went to sleep after the first round and napped
for an hour or two before the numbness went away, but the swelling stuck
around until the next morning.  I woke up the next morning with a nice
purple tint and a sore spot between my right thumb and wrist, and
stiffness in my  shoulders.  Signs of old age or maybe I just wasn't holding
it right.  ??
If the quarter and
the ruler doesn't
give a good idea of
the perspective on
the size, here's a
comparison of the
SW-500 and a 357
snub-nose, which I
assume to be about
the same size as a
38 caliber service
weapon for the
police.

My weapon of choice is the M1911 style
pistol chambered for the 45 cal. Here's a
nice little comparison between a live 45
round and an empty 50 cal. casing.  The
45 looks a little anemic in comparison.
Not too bad, considering I
couldn't feel my hand after the
first shot. Target was about 40
feet out. Took the first two shots
to get up into the red.
